76 was the Bicentennial of our country. 1976 also marked the opening of a new high school in Raleigh County, West Virginia - Independence High School. In 1976, Sophia and Stoco High Schools were merged into one - and three classes of students were interwoven with their former rivals to create an all-new student body.

It didn't take us long to find friendships and relationships with one another that have now lasted four decades. We, the classes of 1977, 78 and 79 will be celebrating forty years since the class of 1978 graduated from Indy - the same way we first found Independence - together, reunited to reminisce and celebrate.
